Leaving El Paso

Short post:

I got back to El Paso and reloaded....uneventually.

Leaving soon. I'll post extenisvely later.

John:...are you sure a 3406E is the same as a Peek? I've heard otherwise...multiple sources.

At any rate...this engine has 800K+ miles on it....this is the first significant work done on it and it turns out the work was unnecessary...useful...but not critical.

The problem was in the KenWorth OEM wiring......bah.

Well, they tended to spread the PEEK around some. While a lot of 3406C, D and E's are PEEKS, that doesn't mean they ALL are. It's the earlier models of them that tended to be the abortion. Most C's are, D's (to a degree) and a number of the E's that I saw were PEEKS. I'm really not sure what CAT was thinking when they spread the joy out, but not to all. Shotgun approach to engine design??? Not all PEEKS are the same either. 99% have the crappy fuel pump/solenoid/issues, but the basic engine varies from year to year/series to series. ALL on the indestructible 3406 frame (I LOVE that engine, and non PEEK fuel pump). I think that it mostly depends on when the engine was designed. And maybe what colour shirt the factory foreman was wearing at the time.
When you said 3406E, with the problems you mentioned, I flashed to PEEK. Kneejerk reaction...heh.
The colours, the colours!
800K? Still good for at least 5-600K more until a rebuild. At least. Good CAT philosophy, NEVER use an eighth inch of steel when a 1/2 inch is so much better.....heh.
OEM wiring, huh??? Where? The ground?
Just curious.
